About the Book Religious poetry is any poetry that contains religious teachings, themes, or references. The influence of religion on poetry has been great in all areas where religion has taken hold. For example, Christian poems often directly reference the Bible, while others provide allegory. Perhaps the greatest examples of Christian poetry in the English language are John Milton's epics Paradise Lost (1667) and Paradise Regained (1671), dealing with the fall from grace and the salvation of the human race. Religious poetry also exists within the Hindu (Aghang, Ovi, Ramayana, Uttararamacarita edtc), Islamic and Jewish faiths to name a few.
