The Ottoman Empire purchased several state-of-the-art steamships from Britain in the 1850’s, most of these vessels had short service lives that ended in disaster. In this illustrated book I will reveal how there may have been more to these losses than appeared on the surface. The loss of the steamships was more complicated than simply a mechanical/design failure. There were suggestive clues of fraud, soured Good Samaritans reluctant to help, and finally the possibility of political intrigue. The fate of several steamships will be examined and their stories will be buttressed by several sea stories as additional evidence. The basis of all the tales in this book are actual events in 19th century newspapers. Join the ship’s spirit Faith as she retells the saga of the “Three Ten of Swords” tales about Turkish steamship purchases in the mid-19th century. One ship sinks on delivery to Constantinople, another disappears without a trace and the third has a most bizarre finale.
