Using letters, documents and interviews with Pauling's contemporaries, Serafini takes the reader through the many facets of Pauling's life, including his student days and early triumphs in chemistry to his controversial later work on nutrition and Vitamin C. His 1962 Nobel Peace Prize and his unsuccessful libel suits againtst "National Review" magazine and the "New York Daily News" is also covered. This study also provides a personal portrait of him as son, husband, father, generous friend, scientific maverick, teacher and political adversary. Anthony Serafini has also written a variety of technical and popular pieces in magazines and journals including "Omni", "Science and Mechanics", "Boston Magazine", "The Quill", "Creative Computing" and "Sports Afield".
