Very few Christians hear God's voice guiding them, and his voice is a "silent voice" speaking to them through other people and things, according to the author, who also examines the five basic methods God uses to communicate with his people today: reading the Scriptures, prayer, worship, observing nature, and discerning circumstances. The book has practical examples from the Bible and modern life - including the author's own experience of guidance - and also contains chapters on the place of words of knowledge and prophecy, and on "the mystery of guidance", when God appears not to guide.
