This book examines the correlation between history, national ideology and the politics of the nation-state in the 19th century. It focuses on the formation of a «scientific historical discipline» in Greece which aimed at strengthening a specific version of national history by relating it to the concepts of «objectivity» and «truth». Further it explores relevant processes in other European socio-cultural contexts and concludes by stressing the tremendous impact of nationalism on the historical discipline.
